Literature and Drama

Literature and Drama was very important to the Japanese. Literature in Japan was started by taking Chinese characters and used them to make  Japanese words. Later, these characters made sounds. One popular story in the Japanese literature is The Tale of Genji.
 
Drama was first preformed by the Shinto. After this, the actors developed noh, a type of acting. Noh is the retelling of stories. Actors often wore masks to tell these stories. Kabuki was later developed and had a lot of makeup on and consisted of singing and acting
. Bunraku was another style of theater. This style used puppets to perform.
